Former Concertmaster, Fredrico Britos

There is no greater proof of the universality of jazz and classical music than the career and life work of Federico Britos, Ars Flores Concertmaster. This titan of the violin, equally adept within the worlds of jazz and classical music, has built a solid reputation throughout the Americas.

Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Federico began playing violin at age five. At eleven, his composition “Capricho Uruguayo” was premiered by George Boulanger, a Rumanian violinist touring in Uruguay. He won early recognition as a gifted musician capable of playing in different genres.

Frederic’s fame has spread as he served as principal chair, soloist, and ultimately Concertmaster with some of the great symphony orchestras of Uruguay, Venezuela, Peru, Cuba and United States (Miami). Federico has toured extensively throughout the Americas and Europe with famed classical groups and jazz greats like Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, and Nat King Cole.

As a composer, Federico has written and recorded works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, ballet and dance, as well as films, TV and theater. His never-ending inspiration is only comparable to his never-ending improvisational skills.

Frederico recently recorded with Isreal ‘Cachao’ Lopez, Grammy awards winner. This record, “Cuba Linda” was also nominated for the Grammy. He also recently released two albums: “Candombe and Jazz”, on the Metrix Music label, and “The First Danzon,” with the group Danzon by Six, on the Mini-Records label. Both were recorded under his musical direction.

Playing side-by-side with a musician of this caliber is, in the words on one Ars Flores Fellow, “Awesome!” Listening to the music that results has concert-goers echoing the thought: it’s awesome!
